Environmental Crusaders: Towards cleaner beaches

Following the festive New Year's celebrations, the annual beach clean-up aimed to combat the litter left behind by visitors, ensuring the continued beauty and health of this precious ecosystem. Thousands of revellers would normally spend New Year’s Day at the beach between Hentiesbaai and the mouth of the Omaruru River, and the various fishing sites along the beach between Hentiesbaai and Wlotzkasbaken.

The solution:

WestCoast Beach Clean-up conducted another annual drive along the coast to clean up all the litter left behind, with a fuel donation from Vivo Energy Namibia. The ten dedicated volunteers made a significant impact, collecting a whopping 120 bags of waste over the period. The collected debris primarily consisted of plastic bottles, cans, food packaging, and foam cups and plates – a stark reminder of the human impact on our environment.

Anna-Marie Mostert, the clean-up coordinator, passionately emphasized the importance of individual accountability and environmental consideration for all holidaymakers. She expressed her satisfaction with the project's success in promoting the environmental integrity of Namibia's stunning coastline.

Vivo Energy Namibia's commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond the beach clean-up. The company actively pursues various initiatives to minimize its environmental footprint, including:

  • Investing in renewable energy sources at its retail sites.
  • Promoting energy efficiency and conservation.
  • Reducing waste generation and ensuring responsible waste disposal.
  • Supporting community-based environmental projects.
